The Mekong Delta is a region in southwestern Vietnam where the Mekong River approaches and empties into the sea through a network of distributaries. It had plenty of fertile soils from upp stream neighbor countries. The region is known as the “rice bowl” of Vietnam because it is the heart of the country’s rice-producing region, where water, boats, houses, and markets coexist to produce a generous rice harvest. The delta had a bountiful harvest of about 20 million tons in 2008, about half of the country’s total production.
